Gloucester Historia
We are pleased to be able to offer freely online a parallel image and translation of the chronicle of our monastic history written by our monks around the 1390s. This has been made possible through a placement from the University of Bristol, MA in Medieval Studies. We are extremely grateful to the University and to Carol. We hope that this will assist anyone wishing to study the medieval history of St Peter's Abbey, Gloucester.
Please note that as this is a historic text it may represent views that may be sensitive and may or may not be the historic opinions, ideas and beliefs of the monks at St Peter’s Abbey in Gloucester. The Cathedral does not endorse the information in the document, likewise the opinions represented in this document do not represent Gloucester Cathedral. While the document contains opinions that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped or offensive, it should be remembered that the document is an important resource in the study of past cultures. We take our responsibilities as a repository of such material seriously.
