Climb 269 steps to the top of the tower, descend into the atmospheric crypt or discover the depth and breadth of the Cathedral’s amazing history. We have a range of tours all led by expert guides.

Please be aware that all tours may be subject to last minute changes. Our Welcome Team will advise you of availability on the day.

Tower Tour

When you get to the top of the winding medieval spiral staircase enjoy a breathtaking view from the top of the tower - on a clear day you can see forty miles across the glorious Gloucestershire countryside to the Malvern Hills.

On the way up you'll visit the ringing chamber and the bell chamber where you’ll see ‘Great Peter’ the only medieval bell of its size still in use in England.

Please note:

  • There is no facility to leave bags, so visitors must keep their belongings to a minimum and on their person at all times.

  • Sensible footwear is highly recommended

  • Children must be 6 and over to climb the tower

  • Any child 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult over 18

Highlights Tour

Bishop Serlo

Join a Cathedral Guide on one of our daily Highlights Tours. You will hear about the fascinating world of the monks who used to live here, see how architecture has evolved over the last 1000 years and visit where Harry Potter was filmed. 

Tours last around 50 minutes. They are usually available at the following times:

Monday - Friday 10.30am, 11am, 12noon, 1.30pm, 2pm and 3pm
Saturday 10.30am, 11am, 12noon, 1.30pm, 2pm
Sunday 12.30pm

Crypt Tour

Descend the steps from the South Transept to discover the hidden subterranean level of the Cathedral. This is where you’ll find remains of the very earliest parts of the building. 

Tours last around 25 minutes. They are usually available at the following times:

Monday - Friday 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm
Saturday 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm
Sunday 12.30pm and 1.30pm

Library Tour

A rare chance to visit the Cathedral's beautiful, hidden 15th century monastic library.

Located high above the main body of the Cathedral (you will need to go up 38 spiral steps!) the library was originally part of the Abbey and holds a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts dating back to the 11th century.
