The Cathedral congregation is a vibrant and open worshipping community, seeking to live in tune with heaven and in touch with daily life. You may never have joined a congregation before but don’t worry, there is no timeframe – it happens at your own pace! It is down to you and God.
Gloucester Cathedral is a big space, and it’s hard not to be struck by its height, ornate windows and magnificent organ when you first enter the building. We understand that it might feel a little daunting if you’ve not been here before, but don’t worry – all are warmly welcome and you’ll soon get to know your way around.
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a Volunteer Steward on a Sunday, or a member of the Welcome Team on a weekday. If you have come for the Sunday Eucharist, you’ll find rows of seating in the Nave; please do sit wherever you like. If you have come for another service (such as Evensong), a member of the Cathedral Team will be able to point you in the right direction.
There is a level approach to the main entrance of the Cathedral at the South Porch, and the door is wheelchair accessible. There is also level access to the Quire and East End of the Cathedral, via the North and South Ambulatory. Further information about accessibility can be found here.
Children and babies are warmly welcome, and there’s plenty of space for them to run around!
