FOGC - Lecture: A very short history of England's Cathedrals

Saturday 12 April, 2pm

Nicholas Orme is a British historian specialising in the Middle Ages and Tudor Period, focusing on the history of children and ecclesiastical history, with a particular interest in South West England. He is an emeritus Professor of History at Exeter University, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and honorary canon of Truro Cathedral.

He will be drawing on his latest publication “The History of England’s Cathedrals”, published in early 2024. He has researched cathedrals origins, constitutions, clergy, worship, music, libraries, schools, settings, relationships with communities and how this has all changed from period to period.

We are looking forward to hearing Professor Orme’s insights and learning more about the human aspects of Cathedral history, complementing what we already know about the history of Cathedral buildings.

This lecture is open to all, but if you are not already a member of the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral and would like to join (and take advantage of preferential ticket prices), details can be found on our website.
