Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for the Life of Queen Elizabeth II to be held at Gloucester Cathedral
Following the death of Her Late Majesty The Queen, Gloucester Cathedral, the Diocese of Gloucester and Gloucestershire Lieutenancy invite you to attend this special service, which will take place at the Cathedral on Sunday 18 September at 3pm.
During this service, we will give thanks for the life and reign of The Late Queen and offer prayers for our new king, His Majesty King Charles III. This service will be attended by representatives from across the city, county and diocese, and members of the public are warmly welcome.
All those wishing to attend the service will need to register for a free ticket in advance. Tickets can now be booked on this page of the Cathedral website, but please note that they are subject to availability.
The service will also be live-streamed to the Cathedral website, YouTube channel and Facebook page so that those who wish to watch online can do so.
The Interim Dean of Gloucester, Canon Dr Andrew Braddock, said:
"Queen Elizabeth II’s remarkable life of service and duty was built on her strong Christian faith. The special service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for her will reflect all these themes. It is an opportunity for us to come together, as we share our profound sense of loss at The Late Queen’s death and give thanks for a life fully lived.”
The Bishop of Gloucester, The Right Revd Rachel Treweek, said:
“This special service of commemoration and thanksgiving will be a time for prayer and reflection. We will express both deep sadness for the death of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and deep thankfulness for her life of service and dedication to her people, rooted in her strong Christian faith. We will also give thanks and pray for Charles, our new King, the Royal family and the life of our communities, our nation and the Commonwealth.”
His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Edward Gillespie OBE, said:
“We have all been deeply saddened by the passing of our Sovereign Queen Elizabeth II, sharing our grief with King Charles III and the Royal Family. Gloucestershire has enjoyed a particularly strong link with the Monarch over many centuries and now we have a King and Queen Consort who are residents of the county. They will be very much in our thoughts and prayers as we gather at the Service of Thanksgiving and Commemoration to reflect on the life of Queen Elizabeth II. This will be an opportunity to bring people from across the county together on the eve of our late Sovereign's funeral.”
