Gloucester Cathedral welcomes new Canon Chancellor and Director of Learning and Participation
On Sunday 30 October, The Revd Canon Dr Rebecca Lloyd will be installed as a Residentiary Canon of the Cathedral
All are warmly invited to attend this service, which will take place at 3pm this Sunday in the Quire of Gloucester Cathedral. This service will include the Collation and Installation of The Reverend Canon Dr Rebecca Lloyd as a Residentiary Canon of the Cathedral, and from Monday, she will begin her role as Canon Chancellor and Director of Learning and Participation. No tickets are required to attend the service, and it will also be live-streamed to the Cathedral’s website, YouTube channel and Facebook page for those who wish to join online.
In her new role, Rebecca will be a full-time member of the Cathedral clergy, making a proactive contribution to daily worship, spiritual life and community. She will also shape, lead and inspire the Cathedral’s Learning and Participation Team, which includes oversight of the Education Centre, the Cathedral’s Social Responsibility work, and the Library and Archives.
For the last five years, Rebecca has been Chaplain to the Bishop of Lichfield and Chancellor’s Vicar at Lichfield Cathedral. Prior to that she worked in parish ministry in London, and, before ordination, she was a Whitehall civil servant.
Rebecca moved from Lichfield to Gloucester last week, accompanied by her dog, Tina. Rebecca said:
“I’m really looking forward to being part of the community here. I’m also looking forward to helping to develop this place which has such a long history of welcome, hospitality and community, and reimagining what that means in our own times.
I’ve already started to get to know some of my new neighbours, and I’ve had the most amazing welcome! Gloucester is clearly an exciting and vibrant city, and there’s so much history here.”
Canon Dr Andrew Braddock, Interim Dean of Gloucester, added:
“We are delighted that Rebecca is joining us here in Gloucester as our new Canon Chancellor and Director of Learning and Participation. She brings with her a passion for Cathedrals ministry, Christian learning and formation, and community building. I have no doubt that she will play a fundamental role as the Cathedral seeks to be a beacon of hope for all, using its assets and partnerships to make a positive contribution to the life of our city, county and diocese. We look forward to celebrating her arrival this Sunday at 3pm – please do join us.”
