Canon Dr Andrew Braddock Announced as Dean of Norwich
Andrew has been a residentiary canon of Gloucester Cathedral since 2013 and was commissioned as Interim Dean in April this year. He will be installed as the 40th Dean of Norwich in a special service at Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 28th January 2023 at 2pm. He will continue as Interim Dean of Gloucester until then.
Canon Andrew said:
“It is a huge privilege to be invited to be the next Dean of Norwich. It will be a return to the cathedral in which I was ordained, and to the diocese that shaped and formed me for my first ten years in public ministry. I look forward to the many opportunities this will bring, as Norwich Cathedral continues to deepen and develop its role in diocese, city and county.
As I prepare to leave Gloucester, I am hugely grateful for all that has been shared with friends, colleagues and partners in the Cathedral and diocese, city and county. It is with a deep sense of thankfulness to God that I know that all I have learned and experienced here will shape my ministry at Norwich.”

“I am delighted that Andrew is to be the next Dean of Norwich, but he will be greatly missed by me, the senior staff team and the wider Diocese of Gloucester. It has been a joy and privilege to share in ministry with him over the past 7 years and he will be a blessing to the Cathedral and the Diocese as he returns to Norwich with his immense gifts, experience and insights. We will be holding Andrew and Victoria, and their children in our prayers as they prepare for the new chapter ahead.”

Canon Dr Andrew Braddock
Canon Andrew spent his first ten years of public ministry in the Diocese of Norwich. Ordained in Norwich Cathedral in 1998, he served his curacy in the parishes of Ranworth with Panxworth, Woodbastwick, South Walsham and Upton in the Norfolk Broads. In 2001, Andrew was appointed Rector of Cringleford and Colney on the edge of Norwich, taking up the additional role of Rural Dean of Humbleyard in 2004.
In 2008, Andrew was appointed Diocesan Missioner in the Diocese of Gloucester and, in 2011, became an honorary canon of the Cathedral. In 2013, he became Canon Missioner of Gloucester Cathedral and Diocesan Director of Mission and Ministry. Andrew was commissioned as Interim Dean of Gloucester in April 2022.
Norwich Cathedral
Norwich Cathedral was founded in 1096 by Bishop Herbert de Losinga. It was established as a Benedictine monastery with its 'rule' based on worship, hospitality and learning, three principles which continue to underpin the work of the Cathedral today.
Set in the heart of the city, the footprint of the original monastery has been recreated with the addition of the Refectory Restaurant and the Hostry Visitor & Education Centre, opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in May 2010. The Cathedral itself is one of the finest complete Romanesque buildings in Europe, housing more than a thousand beautiful medieval roof boss sculptures. It boasts the highest Norman tower and largest monastic cloister in England.
